As the pandemic keeps us at home, the Virginia PTA is putting out information that could be helpful to you. Please take a look at the links below.
NEWS! Now, more than ever, we must ensure that our students have access to well balanced, healthy meals that meet the calorie and nutrition needs established under the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Virginia PTA recently issued a letter to the USDA regarding their proposed roll-back of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act standards that would result in a reduction of vegetable and fruit portions and expand ala carte sales. This speaks to the two nutrition related resolutions the VAPTA approved in January.
New Information is available regarding Fall SOL testing & waivers for 2019-2020. Please click here to go to the VAPTA FaceBook page for more information.

The 2020 Census is underway. Keep tabs on how many households in your community have responded with this map of self-response rates from across the country. Start here with the 2020 Census Response Rate Map. This interactive map tracks the percentage of households that have responded to the 2020 Census in each state, county, city, town, congressional district, and tribal area. It also compares this percentage to the national response rate. Use this map to keep track of the response rate, and share it with your friends and family in other households to encourage them to complete the 2020 Census, too.
Here are several ways you can use the Response Rate Map for home learning:
- Check the map each day for the latest completion rates for your state or community, and create a chart or other graphic to track the increases.
- Talk to your children about how your family can impact the rate by sharing the take-home flyer with friends and family.
- Track how your community’s response rate compares to the rate of other communities in the state, or compare your state to other states.
- Use social media to encourage friends and family to complete the 2020 Census. You can motivate others by sharing the Response Rate Map, declaring that your home has already completed the census, and using images created by the Census Bureau for sharing on social media.
Feel free to add ideas of your own. The best approach is the one that will motivate the most people to respond to the 2020 Census. In this competition, everyone ends up a winner!
